Peppa Pig Cartoon good, bad, evil, girly or are we just over fussing?

Image
I recently found myself having a debate with my friends about Peppa Pig. Yes the famous cute little  anthropomorphic female pig, her stereotypical family and friends. Each of her friends are a different species of mammal- that one might not normally find hanging out together! Peppa is a little preschooler and has a younger brother and most of her friends have a brother of the same age. The cartoon in itself is really innocent as it is about everyday activities that Peppa experiences such as going to the playground, fun fair, swimming, the park, the arrival of a new baby pig cousin etc etc. My little one giggles when he sees it on TV and has even started saying the word Peppa and associating pink pigs with peppa. The whole debate started when I asked my friends if they thought it was okay for a little boy to be watching a cartoon about a pink female pig. In retrospect he is 1 and pigs are actually pink! However, the question is still there at the back of my mind. Is it okay? Should

Travelling with toddlers- The ultimate survival guide

I recently had to make a 17+ hour journey with my 11 month old baby alone. The thought at first was a little daunting. The two times I travelled with my little one, I always had someone with me to help . I first travelled when he was 7 weeks ago on the same 17+ journey and it was a piece of cake. The second time was taking 2 connecting flights with a total for a 5 hour journey. Didn't have any problems with any. This time, bracing it alone with a toddler who was crawling- Well it wasn't as bad as i thought. Here are some tips for the ultimate survival guide. Start of by making a list and as the song goes- check it twice :) Check all must have items (Milk, food, water) and everything else is there to make your life easier. So aim to pack light! 1. Mums dress comfortable and pack light! Yep i learned the hard way. Having 2 bags to carry plus a baby isn't the easiest task. So avoid boots, go for trainers or pumps and a comfy pair of pants. 2. Pack a super organised ha

Where has time gone?

Where has time gone? Ok seriously, where has time gone? In two weeks my little one will be celebrating his 1st birthday. OMG...1 Year old, I can't believe it! What a rollercoaster of a year this has been. As a first time mum, no one can prepare you for the journey, the experience and everything that motherhood brings with it. When i was pregnant, I think, like most mums, I kind of lived in Lala land. Where in my mind nothing was going to change. Where life would just carry on as is. Where it was all about the perfect nursery and the cute clothes hanging perfectly in the wardrobe. Where all the baby things where immaculate and cute . Go forward one year... what a difference....So starting with my perfectly organised house, right now my ornaments are replaced with toys, my tv is constantly on baby tv or a music channel, my youtube recommended vidoes is full of sesame street, jarmies and the wiggles and my house is one unorganised child haven. I Wont have it any other way to be

A time for reflection

Motherhood is one hell of a journey, which is filled with ups and downs. With self critical questions that we ask ourselves every single day and judgment, from no other than other mums. The past few months have been such a learning curve. I learned so much about myself and my little one. Every mum does it, we look around and start asking questions and our heads are filled with self doubt. Am i doing this right? Am i to harsh? Am i to judgemental. Am I doing this the proper way....  With social media around us and other mums constantly uploading pictures of their perfect parenting skills, or rather what they want the world to think.....Their organic, gluten free approach to life. It does add more pressure, where you start examining what you are doing and asking, but is it enough? Or other mothers posting pictures of new learning games they play with their kids. As amazing as these ideas are, sometimes i think the yester years where so much better. Where people didn't publicly prom
